"Bar Paesaggio" is the project conceived by Giacomo Grippa during the Milano Symposium residency in June 2024, created in collaboration with Chiara Biraghi.
The idea of setting up a temporary bar within the disused industrial space arose in the months leading up to the event, during site inspections of the former soap factory's workshop and while planning the spaces for the residency.
The bar is by definition a public space, immediately accessible and engaging. The temporary bar has also become a recurring feature of artistic and cultural initiatives in Milan, characterized by an indistinguishable continuity between what is a happening, an event, or an evening, and what is a visual or environmental art project. In many cases, the bar serves as the main, if not the only, support for independent cultural projects.
Building on these reflections, the installation created by Giacomo Grippa and Chiara Biraghi aims to make this public space a safe haven. It introduces an ethereal, seemingly cold atmosphere, enriched by the emotional imagery and shared research journey of the two young artists during the residency.
At the two ends of the space, the 3D-designed clouds by Chiara Biraghi and the mosquito net tent define the boundaries of the "Paesaggio" with a surreal and ironic tone. This exhibition space was skillfully carved out by the two artists during the residency.
The custom-made elements, such as the wooden counter with a glass washer, the shelves, and the aluminum cloud table, skillfully create the imagery of a new nature characterized as an inseparable blend of digital, architectural, symbolic, and natural environments.
